Services in Sigma Special Programs
-
Meeting Time and Place: Sigma Special Program, designed for individuals with mental and/or developmental disabilities, meets every Saturday from 12:00 to 5:00 P.M. at Hanuri Church in Dallas. We will be opening Community Center in a new location and our program will be able to include more quality services for our clients in a stable environment.
- We embrace the belief that our program will be most effective when dynamic interaction among school, home, and community take place. We are operating school assistance program which shares progress notes and supports parents or guardians who have difficulties with communicating in English. In addition, our certified teachers with experience in speech therapy will visit schools with parents or guardians requesting available services and resources to meet the needs of our clients.
- We extend our services in medical, legal, or financial assistance through our network of local clinics, lawyers, and financial agents. We also help our clients and their families not only receive useful medical and legal information, but also provide them with opportunities to receive regularly-scheduled services.

Sigma Special Program is a weekly group counselling program in which peers can support one another to achieve growth, development, and independence with disabilities. Depending on an individual’s challenges, age, gender, and cognitive ability, both individual counselling and group therapy may be combined to enhance the therapeutic outcome. In a group setting, the program stresses more dynamic activities while individual therapy focuses more on specific details of each individual. Each and every client varies in their developmental stage and goals; therefore, we try to group them in smaller numbers based on their conditions and abilities. The foremost objective of our program is to provide an environment where our clients can develop life- learning skills and effective communication skills. We work with individuals to provide critical skills to help them live and work in their community.
GROUP PROGRAMS
- Speech Therapy : Speech therapy in individual or group setting at public schools has received a positive feedback from the parents of disabled children. Clients learn self-expression, language skills and interpersonal skills through peer interaction.
- Art Therapy : We prepare different art projects and materials based on holidays, seasons, or any special events. Working with an art therapy certified professional, we teach self-expression, patience, and self-confidence.
- Physical Therapy : We offer physical activities such as playing with parachutes, blowing bubbles, and sports activities such as basketball and soccer in the gym and outdoor spaces. These activities become positive influences on the mental and physical development of our clients.
- Yoga : Since those with disabilities often experience additional stress, we offer breathing exercises, stretching techniques, and meditation with a yoga instructor. Clients, especially those with ADHD, can learn to find self-awareness as well as mental and physical balance.
- Social training with Circle time : Clients learn fundamental communication and social skills such as eye contact, tone of voice as well as basic etiquette by introducing themselves, asking and responding to questions of their peers.
- Music Therapy : Through musical involvement such as singing, playing instruments and listening to different sounds, clients, especially those with autism, are able to strengthen their ablility to express their feelings and improve communication skills. Music therapy also provides an opportunity for clients to improve their concentration and interact with the rest of community through performances.
