The Drug and Alcohol Evaluation includes a clinical component, using a standardized psychosocial assessment tool, and a detailed, written report describing the results. Also known as screening or assessment, the alcohol and drug evaluation process leads to an accurate diagnosis along with recommendations designed to help individuals make informed decisions about the next step. The Drug and Alcohol Evaluation Counselor provides a preliminary diagnosis of an individual's chemical dependency, if appropriate, and recommendations for treatment modalities which may be indicated to address specific needs. This service is often used as a referral or disposition resource by the Courts, Family Services, schools and other third parties. Recommendations may include addiction treatment, if warranted, or referrals to physical and mental health practitioners, family counselors, or other helping professionals.

Diagnostic evaluation is generally performed by a licensed psychologist or well trained other mental health professional when a problem, that does not have a physical origin, is noticed and the cause needs to be determined. This problem can exist in several realms, for example: (1) Intelligence test, personality test, achievement test, and may other realms, (2) inappropriate behavior (3) inappropriate mood states (4) failure to perform up to expected standards (as in schoolwork or work), and etc. A comprehensive diagnostic evaluation may be necessary to diagnose any number of emotional, behavioral, or developmental disorders. An evaluation of a child, adolescent, or adult is made based on behaviors present and in relation to physical, genetic, environmental, social, cognitive (thinking), emotional, and educational components that may be affected as a result of the behaviors presented.

Behavioral Intervention
We strive to develop effective treatment plans that not only decrease the occurrence of inappropriate behaviors, but more importantly, strengthen and promote adaptive behaviors that lead to increased independence and enhanced quality of life. For those individuals whose behaviors are injurious and detrimental to themselves and/or others, positive procedures are emphasized to increase appropriate, adaptive responses, prior to using any restrictive procedures. For some individuals, appropriately selected and implemented behavior reduction programs are crucial to their progress. These programs maximize the effects of skill building programs by decreasing the frequency and/or duration of dysfunctional behaviors. If restrictive interventions are used under optimal clinical conditions, their use can be appropriate, effective and instrumental in increasing the independence, autonomy, and quality of life of those with severe behavior disorders

The Court (ordered) Program is for individuals who are legally required to participate in an anger program. The Employee Program is for individuals who are experiencing anger problems in the workplace. The Couple Program is for partners who seek professional help for resolving relationship problems.

Social Skills Training
Social skills training (SST) is a form of behavior therapy used by teachers, therapists, and trainers to help persons who have difficulties relating to other people. A major goal of social skills training is teaching persons who may or may not have emotional problems about the verbal as well as nonverbal behaviors involved in social interactions. There are many people who have never been taught such interpersonal skills as making "small talk" in social settings, or the importance of good eye contact during a conversation. In addition, many people have not learned to "read" the many subtle cues contained in social interactions, such as how to tell when someone wants to change the topic of conversation or shift to another activity. Social skills training helps patients to learn to interpret these and other social signals, so that they can determine how to act appropriately in the company of other people in a variety of different situations. SST proceeds on the assumption that when people improve their social skills or change selected behaviors, they will raise their self-esteem and increase the likelihood that others will respond favorably to them. Trainees learn to change their social behavior patterns by practicing selected behaviors in individual or group therapy sessions. Another goal of social skills training is improving a patient's ability to function in everyday social situations. Social skills training can help patients to work on specific issues?for example, improving one's telephone manners?that interfere with their jobs or daily lives.
